There has been an application, submitted by the Rensselaer County Sheriff to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that would deputize members of the Sheriff’s department to act as ICE agents.
Ours would be the first county in New York State to collaborate with ICE.
The Sheriff has been asked to hold a public forum on the matter, but has refused. County legislators are filing a formal resolution urging the Sheriff to withdraw the application. Show up to the Legislature meeting on February 7th at 6pm and make your voice heard. We want ICE out of our communities, and we don't want local police collaborating with ICE in any way!
